About
Take Care, the Boston-based band led by brothers Kyle and Dan (DJ) Joseph, will release its debut album, Somewhere Safe, on January 10, 2011.
The brothers, along with childhood friend Dan Phelan, began writing music together three years ago. They entered the studio for the first time in the summer of 2009, and emerged four days later with their debut EP Awakenasleep.
After a year of sporadic gigs and significant creative evolution, the band returned to the studio to record a three-song demo that would inspire Somewhere Safe. The demo was received with enthusiasm, marked by an appearance under indierockcafe.com’s “Best New Releases” of Fall 2010 alongside Sufjan Stevens and Belle and Sebastian.
Riding the wave of support from the demo, the band played shows in the New England area and continued to evolve and refine their sound. Following two years of work, their once scattered thoughts had grown into a unified idea that was ready for recording. Thanks to the band’s loyal fanbase, a successful crowd-funding campaign allowed them to enter New York City’s DNA Studios in the summer of 2011. After one week of tracking, one week of mixing, and two months of careful adjustment, Somewhere Safe was ready for its January release. Priding themselves on craftsmanship, compulsive attention to detail, and a relentless devotion to their music, Take Care presents Somewhere Safe as a cohesive, multidimensional album that is a direct result of the past two years of their lives.
Somewhere Safe draws inspiration from Bon Iver, Jeff Buckley, and The Strokes to create a sound that is reminiscent of all, but mimics none. The Joseph brothers’ vocal deliveries possess both a continuity and a contrast that only brothers could find. The voices, along with warm guitars, subtle horns, and a myriad of other uniquely comforting sounds thoughtfully paint emotions ranging from triumph to safety to sorrow. “Lockjaw” and “Orphan” from Somewhere Safe are available for free download on the band’s website, takecaremusic.com, and Somewhere Safe will be available in its entirety on January 10, 2011.
